Upcoming Swims
The most important swim on everybody's calendar should be our perennial favorite, the Hour Swim! You may have noticed a slight increase in the length of some of our sets over the last few weeks since there is no time like the present to start our winter training. The smiley faces are back!
The Reno "Winners" Meet, a short course yards meet, will take place on Saturday, December 3rd. Entries should be postmarked by November 28th to pre-enter, but deck entries will be allowed. All races will be deck seeded.!
Pacific Masters has decided on the location for the pool championships next year. The Short Course Yards Championships will be in Pleasanton in April 2006. The Long Course Yards Championships will be in Santa Cruz July 7-9, 2006. The Short Course Meters Championships will be in Walnut Creek in November.!
The XI FINA World Masters Swimming Championships will be held at Avery Aquatic Center at Stanford University. The swimming events will take place from August 4th through 10th and will include relays. The open water swim will be on August 11th. The schedule of events and the qualifying times are posted on the bulletin board in the hallway. It is never too early to consider entering this meet!!
Short Course Meters Championships
The PMS Short Course Meters Championships took place in Walnut Creek the 4th, 5th and th of November. Arun, Geoff, Barb, Judy, Laura Val, Jim T., Jon S., Rich, Ken (the elder), Robbie and Bea took the plunge. Rich, Ken, Judy and Laura were dominating, but perhaps the most impressive swim of the meet goes to Bea Heim who bested her 800 seed time by more than 35 seconds! Congratulations to everyone who swam.
2006 PMS Registration Renewal
It's time to renew your PMS registration! Forms are on the bulletin board. Please take a moment to complete the form, attach a check for $35 payable to Pacific Masters Swimming and drop both in the envelope on the bulletin board. PMS registration is required for insurance purposes. Don't mail it in separately as we will do this as a team. Please do this as soon as possible! Jessica needs to get the entire team done by December 16th!
Website
Did you know that TAM has its very own website thanks to webmaster, Jon Haveman? Check it out at www.tammasters.org. Jon has done a great job including photos of many of our famous faces.
Vacation Parking
Christmas vacation will begin on Friday, December 16th. School will resume on Tuesday, January 5th. Parking is okay on campus while school is not in session. Check the white board for any changes to the swim schedule for the holidays.
Open Invitation!
If any of you morning swimmers would like a "change of pace" and a little more room in the lanes, try an evening workout occasionally. Evening workouts are Monday through Thursday from 6-7:15pm. We're a small (but highly motivated) group of swimmers and we really would enjoy your company! Especially during this time of year when Marie's feedback on those 1200 yd, 20 minute and 30 minutes swims is invaluable!! Come join us for great swimming and great company. Besides, Roland and Phil could use a few more people pushing them down the lanes.
Marie's Christmas Gift
Please note that there's a card and envelope on the bulletin board for Marie's Christmas gift. Please take a moment to sign the card and put something in the envelope. It's our chance to say thanks again to Marie for all her hard work and creativity (been to a Saturday work out lately?) throughout the year. I do enjoy collecting for this and appreciate everyone's willingness to contribute whatever they can. If you wish to leave a check in the envelope, please make it payable to me, Jim Stambolis. Or you can mail it to me at 530 Wakerobin Lane, San Rafael 94903. I'll take cash too but it's probably best to catch me at the pool if you want to do that. Given the timing of Christmas, I will likely give Marie the gift on the 23rd or 24th, so you still have plenty of time. Thanks in advance for your support to Marie's Christmas gift.
Christmas Charity
This year we will support the Ritter House teens a group often overlooked during the holidays. Marie is asking for gift cards for the GAP, Target and Best Buy to help these kids have a happy holiday.
Christmas Party
The Christmas Party will take place on Sunday, December 11th beginning at 4pm at Jon and Mary Anne's house, 204 Ross Street, San Rafael. Phone number: 415-457-1228. Please plan to attend and sign up on the Board for tasty items to bring to the party

They are on the right just before Ross ends at Reservoir Road. If you get to the light at Bayview Street, you have gone too far! Parking can be limited on Ross so you may want to turn left onto Clark just one block before our house and park there.
Christmas Carol Time
Don't forget, everyone should be working on their swimming Christmas carols for our special Christmas workout this year. We will have copies of our traditional favorites including "Deck the Pool with Smiley Faces" and "O Hour Swim!" available for practice that day, but new additions are always appreciated!

Since I can't resist including this one more year!
A Swimmer's Night Before Christmas
"Twas the day before Christmas, when all in the pool,
TAM Masters were swimming, following every pool rule.
The kickboards were stacked by the poolside with care,
In hopes Coach Marie soon would be there.
The swimmers were chatting, content in their lanes,
While visions of pull-sets danced through their brains.
And Teresa in her swimsuit and Jon in his cap,
Had just settled on intervals for KLRPS per lap.
When out on the pool deck there arose such a clatter,
We looked up from our lanes to see what was the matter.
Away to the wall I flew like a flash,
Jumped out on the deck with nary a splash!
The sun on the rooftops a'sparkle with frost,
Gave a luster like diamonds - perhaps all was not lost!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh filled with goggles and gear!
With a bundled up driver who was smiling with glee,
I knew in a moment it must be Marie!
More rapid than dolphins her swimmers they came,
And she whistled and shouted and called them by name!
Now Richard! Now Roland! Now Seymour! Now Terry!
On Kelley! On Karen! On Heather! On Gary!
To the end of the lane! To the cross on the wall!
Tight flip turns and streamline, swim faster y'all!
As fluid as dolphins they swam butterfly,
Then backstroke and breaststroke and freestyle - oh my!
So quick through the workout the swimmers they flew,
With one-arms and kick sets and a relay or two.
And then in a twinkling the workout was done,
Now time for the warm down, hot showers and fun!
As I looked all around me at the friends that I'd found,
I realized on TAM's team that good times abound.
Then I heard Coach exclaim ere she drove out of sight,
Happy Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!

Happy Holidays!
