Upcoming Swims
Fall has almost arrived and
so has the beginning of the Short Course Meters season. Check out the list
below to see what’s coming. More
information on these swims can be found at www.pacificmasters.org or take a
look at your copy of USMS Swimmer magazine for more
details.
October 1 32nd
Annual Pentathalon
November 4-6 PMS SCM Meters
Championships, Walnut Creek
Short Course Meters Championships
Marie is hoping for a strong
team showing at the upcoming PMS Short Course Meters Championships taking place
in Walnut Creek
the 4th, 5th and 6th of November. Information on the meet can be found at swim4wc@netscape.net or on the PMS
website at www.pacificmasters.org. If you have been thinking about trying a swim
meet, this might be just the place to get started. Marie will be happy to
suggest an event or events that might suit you best and help you come up with
an accurate entry time. Swim meets are a great time to get to know your fellow
swimmers. We have some veteran
competitors on our team and they would welcome some new faces to join their
ranks!
TAM Masters Break World and National Relay Records
We broke two records Sunday, September 25th
at Eagle Park Pool in Mountain View, CA. The 240-279 800m Mixed Free Relay, composed of
Rich Burns, Laura Val, Nancy Ridout, and Ed Cazalet broke the existing National Record by 48 seconds
with a time of 10:05.15. An hour later the TAM team of Rich Burns, Ken Frost, Nancy Ridout,
and Laura Val lowered the World Record for the 200m Mixed Freestyle Relay to 2:02.65.
Maui Channel Swim and Waikiki Roughwater Swim
Barb Wheeler and Karen
Simontacchi braved the waters of the Maui Channel over Labor Day weekend and
came up with a fourth place finish (only minutes behind the First Place team)
in the Women’s Division. The Waikiki Roughwater which takes place on Labor Day
Monday was cancelled this year for the first time in the race’s history due to
rough surf.
Training Emphasis
Those of you who have swum
with TAM for the last several years will remember that during the months of
September and October, Marie has customarily shifted the training focus to
drills specifically designed for stroke improvement. Due to the rescheduling of
Short Course Championships the shift in emphasis will be on preparation for a
strong showing at this meet in early November. Everyone can look forward to
training for the Hour Swim beginning in late November.
Many Thanks!
Please take a moment to thank
all the wonderful people who helped out with the pool while Marie was away for
a well-deserved vacation. Thanks to
Gary, Jon H., Joe, Terry, John C., Judy, Bea and Jim S. for keeping the water
clear and chlorinated and the gates open!
Fall Parking
School is now in session and
there is no parking on campus except for Saturday mornings. Please respect
these parking restrictions. Thank you.
Practice schedule changes
Please check the whiteboard
for any changes in the evening practice schedule due to the water polo schedule
for Marin Academy.
The water polo season continues through September and October.

for Sergio Silva who was married recently on the beautiful island of Kauai.
