TAM Masters Set 2 World Records and 1 National Record

United States Masters Swimming held its 2005 Long Course National
Championships, August 11-15th, at the Marguerite Aquatics Center, in
Mission Viejo. Over 1100 Masters swimmers from age 18 through 96
competed over the five-day competition that included events in all
strokes from 50 meters to 200 meters up to the 400IM, and 400, 800, and
1500 freestyle. A Texas relay composed of 4 men ages 90, 91, two at 92
was a highlight and smashed the freestyle and medley World records for
the age group.
The TAM Masters placed 12th out of 137 teams even though it was comprised
of only 9 swimmers competing against teams of over 50 swimmers.
The TAM 240-279 Mixed Medley Relay of Richard Burns, Ken Frost, Laura
Val, and Nancy Ridout, broke the World Record by 3.5 seconds and set a
new standard of 2:14.03. The TAM 240-279 Mixed Freestyle Relay of
Richard Burns, Laura Val, Nancy Ridout, and Ed Cazalet broke the World
Record by 5 seconds with a time of 2:00.40.
Ken Frost (60-64) won the 50, 100, and 200 breastroke events setting a
new National Record of 1:18.60 in the 100m breastroke. Laura Val (50-54)
won all 6 of her events, Rich Burns (60-64) won the 50, 100, and 200
backstroke events, and Ed Cazalet (60-64) won the 400m IM. Complete
